That figure came after a 7% decline in CSI from 2019 to 2020. In other words, Canada is getting safer, but only in some of its cities.

As for the most populated provinces, there are cities with high crime rates in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Here, we dive into some of the most dangerous cities in the world.
- Red Deer, AB
Red Deer is one of the most dangerous cities in Alberta. Located midway along the Calgary-Edmonton corridor, your local museum has a substantial First Nations art and artifacts collection.
Red Deer has crime rate of 176.4. The violent crime count is 175.7, while the non-violent crime count is 176.2. That’s many points above the Alberta average.
- Lethbridge, AB
As of 2019, Lethbridge was the fourth largest city in Alberta, with a population greater than 100,000. Being close to the Canadian Rockies, it has warm summers and mild winters. The mild climate has attracted many residents.
Despite the pleasant weather, Lethbridge has an overall CSI of 148.9. The violent crime rate is 133.8, and the non-violent crime rate is 154.0. That’s above Alberta’s CSI of 101.36.

Regina is the capital of Saskatchewan and the second-largest city. It has a strong arts and cultural scene and commercial hub for southern Saskatchewan. However, due to its status as one of the largest cities in the province, there is a significant crime rate.
Regina’s CSI is 116.8. The violent crime rate stands at 150.9. The non-violent crime measure is only 104.3. Still, the overall CSI is below the Saskatchewan average of 146.7.

Surrey is a city in the Vancouver metropolitan area, located south of the Fraser River on the border between the United States and Canada. Peace Arch Provincial Park is here; a white arch marks the boundary. Unfortunately, despite this appeal, Surrey has a high crime rate.
