Melbourne Wing Chun Kung Fu Master Maurice Novoa’s Philanthropic Journey Leaves Jakarta Transformed

Australia, 21st Sep 2023, King NewsWireRenowned Wing Chun Kung Fu Master, Maurice Novoa, has embarked on a mission of compassion and change in Jakarta, Indonesia, this month. His journey, accompanied by his fiancée Thirza, who hails from Indonesian and West Papuan heritage, has already made a profound impact on the city’s less fortunate residents.

Their philanthropic journey began with a simple act of kindness, as they roamed the streets of Jakarta, distributing packets of chicken and rice to those in need. Their generosity touched the hearts of many, especially those who make a living by collecting recyclable items. In total, 105 meals were shared with those who rely on such support to survive.

On August 4th, Maurice and Thirza visited “Rumah Hebat Anak Indonesia” (RHAI), a registered nonprofit organization committed to providing education to children who face challenges attending school due to population administration issues. Located in South Jakarta, RHAI currently serves approximately 40 to 50 students aged 5 to 14. All their teachers are dedicated volunteers from SMA Kanisius Jakarta. The organization’s mission is clear: to offer quality education to every child, regardless of their background, believing that every child deserves the opportunity to learn and achieve their full potential. RHAI provides a range of programs, including academic classes, extracurricular activities, and recreational opportunities, all while working diligently to offer students the support they need for both academic and personal success.

In a touching gesture, Maurice Novoa donated two boxes of brand new martial arts mitts and boxing gloves to RHAI, gifts graciously offered by Catherine Tan of Tans Martial Arts in Melbourne. Not stopping at the gift-giving, Maurice also shared his martial arts expertise with the children, instructing them on offensive and defensive fighting stances alongside Master Wulang, a martial arts instructor based in Jakarta.

The impact of Maurice’s visit extended even further, as he conducted a martial arts workshop at the Kali Majapahit martial arts club, owned by Head Instructor Wulung Damardoto, on September 7th. During this workshop, participants learned defensive footwork techniques against knife attacks, including drills that incorporated elements from basketball movements, making the self-defense techniques both practical and accessible. Additionally, Maurice imparted the knowledge of the most potent elbow strike developed by Wing Chun Grandmaster Pan Nam. The success of this workshop was unprecedented, with Wulung describing it as the most successful fundraising event in the club’s history. To provide context, the workshop raised $750, in a country where people work all day collecting plastic to recycle for just $2. Based on a minimum day’s work in Australia of $80 the money raised would represent $16,000 if in Maurice Novoa’s home country.

In a final act of generosity, some of the adult-sized boxing gloves donated by Tans Martial Arts in Melbourne were gifted to a local boxing gym whose members attended the workshop in a show of support.

Maurice Novoa’s philanthropic journey is a testament to the transformative power of kindness and martial arts. His dedication to making a difference in Jakarta continues to inspire, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of those in need
