According to the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, around 500,000 dental implants are placed every year in the United States. Though a large number, many patients are still reticent to get implants due to the costs, waiting periods, and invasiveness of the procedure. The practice offers a variety of dental implant options depending on the patient’s situation. These include single-tooth implants, implant-supported bridges, and All-on-4 implants. Most implants consist of a root, which is a metal screw inserted into the jawbone, and the tooth or crown, which is placed on top of the screw.
For all dental implant procedures, Hover Dental Group starts with a consultation. During this consultation, X-rays are taken to assess the condition of the jawbone and determine whether a preliminary bone graft is necessary. After this phase, the root or implant is inserted into the jawbone and allowed to heal and stabilize for a period of a few weeks to a few months. Once healed, the prosthetic is fixed or placed onto the implant.
Primarily, dental implants are used to fill gaps created by missing or damaged teeth. However, properly installed implants can also improve the functionality of teeth and make brushing and flossing a lot easier. Implants also prevent jawbone loss, minimize the incidence of periodontal disease, and preserve facial structure.
