Senior Care Authority partners to bring CarFit to St. Louis, Mo.

CarFit, a program developed by the collaborative efforts of AAA, AARP, and the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), is making its way to St. Louis, MO, to offer senior drivers in the area a unique opportunity to ensure their cars “fit” them perfectly. This free event, sponsored by Senior Care Authority, Innovative Occupational Therapy Solutions, and AARP, will take place on Friday, October 13th, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm at The Jewish Community Center Parking Lot in Creve Coeur.

As the number of people aged 65 and older is projected to reach an estimated 58.9 million by 2030, representing 1 in 5 individuals, the need for personalized vehicle adjustments to accommodate the unique needs of older drivers has become increasingly important. By 2030, it is also expected that 1 in 4 licensed drivers will belong to this age group. While personal mobility is vital for healthy aging, the physical changes that come with age can make driving uncomfortable and unsafe without the appropriate vehicle modifications.

CarFit addresses these concerns by providing trained professionals who guide senior drivers through a comprehensive 12-point checklist to assess their vehicle’s compatibility with their needs. These experts recommend minor adjustments that can greatly enhance both comfort and safety while driving. Additionally, an occupational therapist will be on-site to provide seniors with valuable information on maintaining and strengthening their driving health.

“Throughout my career as a Beyond Driving with Dignity professional, I have seen countless unsafe drivers and some of these safety issues can be assuaged with a few changes to one’s vehicle. This is why I am partnering with AARP and occupational therapist Jenny Williams on this upcoming CarFit event. CarFit is a free program offered for older adults to provide them with resources and to check how well their personal vehicles “fit” them.” explains Erin Dwyer-Busch of Senior Care Authority.
