The law requires that employer-sponsored plans be affordable only for employees, not for family members, although family coverage may be unaffordable for the entire household.”
Rick Thornton, a Corpus Christi health insurance agent , said that while detractors have a point to their argument and have a leg to stand on when it comes to legal decisions, it is difficult to ignore the fact that providing extra subsidies for families is a huge benefit since many families can’t afford coverage if someone in the household has employer coverage. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, an estimated 5.1 million people fall inside the “family glitch.” Time will tell what happens with this new ruling and the legal challenges that result from it.
